Personal statement Essay Example for Free

Personal statement Essay My names David, and just like my entire society of Jews, I have been neglected from the German nation. I have found no reasoning, no explanation, for why we been blamed for our countries extreme downfall. For the last two years our family has been in hiding and three months ago we were located and persecuted by the Nazis. The neighbors gather information and noticed we were Jewish, they quickly called the police. Weve received letters from our relatives stating their safe in a labor camp but I know they are probably not even alive anymore. Ive kept updated with the militaries action and they invaded Poland 39 as well. I feel an entire war begging and the help for our race is no where near. This Genocide is no where near over. We were stuffed into train crafts, over crowed without any space to sit. We had a bucket as a toilet for about 35 people. I felt the presence of evil from the begging, and even though I know were heading to Auschwitz I dont have any predictions for my future. As soon as we stepped off the train we were separated into two groups. To me the groups were workers and the other were the useless. I havent seen my mother or baby sister nor my grandmother. Me and my father escaped and are once again in hiding. We tried locating our family but we cant find anyone from the other group, but have seen bodies being disposed and the crematoria. I havent slept but Ive cried, consistently. As well as my father were torn down we understand what is going and are hopeless. I know the year, 1943. But not the day nor month. Help? I don’t expect it, not after 4 years not anytime soon especially not America who didn’t even allow the St. Louis ship to stop in the beginning. The only reason I believe this is because they have no idea what is going on. If they did they would evidently stop this epidemic and come rescue us. Me and my father have been living hopeless and have not expected anything to change but were safely hiding. Today we saw American soldiers invaded the labor camp and I have no idea what my future holds. Hopefully we can relocate to Israel which is under British control or united states. I just want for everything to go back to normal but the will never happen, especially since my family has been destroyed. The Allies soldiers are helping as much as possible and feel more sorrow then any other person, They will never fully understand what we went through. The world has come to a complete change, they understand that the isolation only brought destruction to entire world and the only way to keep peace is too come to a united world. I don’t feel the same, never will. My mentality has developed, I avoid eye contact with everyone, I hate speaking of the experiences but I most in order to let society know what has really happened.

Argumentative Essay On Social Media

Nowadays, a lot of people are using social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumbler and so on. Since the Internet has propagated rapidly, social media have progressed a lot. The generalization of the internet makes us to live conveniently and fast. People are almost using smart phones, i-phones or comfortable devices which can access to internet. These equipments make us to do social network easily. It helps contact friends, family, and other people even though they live far away. It could be, however, abused, if you don’t use properly.Especially, it is important that we understand and regulate the use of social media by young children. First of all, social media, especially facebook, are very addicted. People would say drug or alcohol is more addicted than social media or social media addiction is not big problems, but it is not true. There is a report of the social media addiction by University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business. A team from the University of Chica go’s Booth School of Business recently conducted an experiment involving 205 people in Wurtzburg, Germany to analyze the addictive properties of social media and other vices.Participants in the week-long study were polled via BlackBerry smart phones seven times per day and asked to report when they experienced a desire within the past 30 minutes, and whether or not the succumbed to that desire. They were also asked to gauge each desire on a scale from mild to â€Å"irresistible. † In the light of these facts, surely social media make addicts, and it is hard to escape. The problem is most people who have an addiction to social media and don’t even realize it. Second, people can get mental and physical disorders easily through using social media.People might bet think social media is not matter with the disorders. They argued the social media is good for mental diseases because social media help express their feelings or thought easily. Also, through social media, they can be connected each other more. However, social media just offer limited meeting. They just meet on websites, not physical meeting. Psychologist, Aric Sigman suggests â€Å"The use of social networking sites as opposed to face-to-face interaction could lead to major health problems. † Also he claimed in the British Journal The Biologistâ€Å"Spending too much time online could lead to social isolation, loneliness and a negative outlook. These types of psychological symptoms could eventually lead to more serious health concerns, such as heart disease, cancer and dementia. † Using social media disturbs make deep relationship with others. When they are using social media we do not need to move a lot. It is okay just to stay. We do not need to active a lot. As a result, it leads naturally mental and physical disorders. Third, social media doesn’t help for their studies or talents.People think social media is good places to show their talents or works what th ey did. For example, they argue people can share video clip what they playing the instruments or dancing or singing. It is, however, for people who already good to do those. If you are not good at those things and if you spend time to do social media, it would be hard to progress your talents. I did surveys about relationships between using social media and studying last semester. Most students answered using social media is not helpful to study. Also, students who got good grades spend just a little time to use social media. Using social media steals your time to what really want to do easily. If you do not pay attention, your time is gone very fast, and it cannot be returned. If you read books, study, exercising, practice singing, dancing or playing the instruments instead of using social media, it would be much better for you and your future life. Especially, the young generation and children are easy to be exposed to environments which using social media.Social media are favorite not only along with teens or youngsters; it’s growing among working people and also old people. Social media addiction drug exactly where everyone is continuously logged on it irrespective that they have worked or they don’t have anything to complete. It’s regarded Social media an addiction exactly where many people have become addicts every day. It could be occurred mental and physical disease and make you waste time. Those are why we need to understand and regulate the use of social media by young children.

Gender Roles A Social Norm For Women - 1633 Words

I never really thought about gender roles growing up. I wanted to shave my legs by the time I was eight, I wanted to wear makeup before I even hit sixth grade, and I used to cry when my mom told me I had to wear pants to school instead of a dress when it was cold outside. I was your stereotypical feminine female. But as I have grown up, I have begun to realize that many people are not like me. I have also begun to realize what many more people expect from me. Wearing makeup has become a social norm for women. Little girls put on costume makeup to play dress up because they see the â€Å"beautiful† women on TV and in the media wearing it. Those â€Å"beautiful† women become the young girls’ idols and they start to admire their looks and replicate†¦show more content†¦So again, we return to the question of these young girls wouldn’t wear makeup if all of their idols are. We are taught as young women (either by our parents, the media, or our friends) that it is the correct thing to do, so we do it. But men are not taught this same thing; your typical male role models do not wear makeup. Sure, if an actor is going on camera or playing a particular character they will wear some type of stage makeup, but that is an exception. Men, for the most part, do not feel the pressures of society to look perfect and hide their flaws because the role models they see everyday are out living their life without a drop of tinted moisturizer. I cannot even count the number of times I have seen photos of a male and female celebrity both in sweatpants with the males caption as â€Å"so and so goes grocery shopping in relaxed pants† and the females saying â€Å"so and so is so heartbroken over her break up that she could not even get dressed today.† That example is a major reason as to why I am focusing on wearing makeup in this paper. I am a woman who is sick and tired of being expected to hide my flaws and look hot while the man next to me can wear sweatpants with bedhead and not get a second look from anyone. Every morning when I wake up, I get dressed, I put on my contacts, and then I do my make up. It’s like clockwork. Hills Like White Elephants By Ernest Hemingway - 1446 Words

Ernest Hemingway’s short story â€Å"Hills Like White Elephants† explores the topics of abortion, sex before marriage, and feelings of separation. There are many different points of view one can take on Hemingway’s work. The main literary analysis that will be explained is the significance of the title and how it is layered into the story in various places. In addition to this, the narrator’s point of view will also be discussed since it plays a role in bringing the characters together. Lastly, it will be shown how the imagery and symbolism hidden throughout the story parallel the conflicts the two characters face. The title is a huge focus throughout this feature because Hemingway layers it into his work in multiple segments. To some, the significance of the title differs. Common knowledge seems to dictate that the character Jig is simply referencing the hill’s color looking like white elephants. However, Author’s Lewis E and Weeks Jr, from [Stuies in Short Fiction] writes, â€Å"On first reading the title one assumes the comparison merely be to the color and the rounded contour of the hills that constitute part of the setting, a quiet literal reference.† (p. 75). In making this comment, the authors urge us to look past the simply explanation given by the character and delve deeper into what the title symbolizes. The title doesn’t imply that we will be reading into a story about a man and a woman discussing the future of their unborn child and their own futures McBee 2 along with it.Show MoreRelatedHills Like White Elephants by Ernest Hemingway580 Words   |  2 PagesE.B. The Nature Of Successive Cyclic Wh Movement And The...

Abstract This essay will examine the nature of successive cyclic wh-movement and the creation of intermediate categories that arise as a result as well as this it will also attempt to examine the approaches to wh-movement. Also including some languages around the world are involved with wh-movement creating evidence that it is a successive cyclic. By looking at wh-questions one can familiarize perhaps with their native language as to what it actually means. Thus realise that sentences and questions are composed of discrete units and are combined by rules. To follow it will also look at how movement through intermediate CPs actually works and what constraints have been put against to withhold movement. This leads on to the examination of islands and bounding theory. Introduction Wh-movement is a mechanism that helps express a question. With a wh-word in a sentence one should expect to see a particular word arrangement. Wh-movement is referred to as this term because most inquisitorial words start with ‘wh’. It is found in a variety of languages all over the world, however in Languages such as Chinese, wh-movement does not have to take place, whereas wh-movement is optional in French. It is recognized as being one of the most widely accepted discontinuity types, with the other three being; Extraposition, Scrambling and Topicalization. Pro Athletes Salaries Essay Example For Students

Pro Athletes Salaries Essay Here is an example of a Professional Athletes Salary. Kevin Garnett is a 21 year old Basketball player who had taken the A.C.T test three times in High School, failing all three times and had also taken the S.A.T Test once and failed. Kevin decided that he would not go to a collage even though he was the highly recruited #1 basketball player in the nation, and could have had a scholarship to any collage he wanted. So his decision took him to the NBA draft, where he was selected in the first round to the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Timberwolves signed him to a 6 year $125 Million dollar contract to play for them. (Tom Lenard-Opinion columist)Every year we hear of some new name, some new player in the sports news getting a new record contract which sets a much higher mark and blows away the high from the year before. So we ask whos fault is this that theses men and women are getting paid more and more? Most fingers point our way, the peoples way, the fans way. We are the ones that go to these sporting events pay $50 dollars for a ticket, pay a $100 dollars for a jacket, and $20 dollars for a cap of our favorite teams. We are the ones who support these teams and the players. The reason ticket prices keep going up is because money is needed to pay all of our great players. It doesnt help that they know that we will pay these ticket prices no matter how ridiculous they start charging. Michael Jordan makes 33 million a year plus another 40 million in endorsements. Just because our favorite Athlete wears this brand of underwear and our favorite Athlete eats this brand of a hot dog, should we? Should go out and pay these outrageous prices just for an ordinary product? Mr. Jordan makes $170 Thousand dollars a day!( no page) Considering our President of the United States of America only makes $250 Thousand dollars a year , whats does this tell you about our Country that we think that a person that plays a game for a living should be making more than the person that makes some major decisions concerning America? When players get paid this much it puts more pressure on them to perform. When players are not making so much, they are actually working for money , but when they sign a new Million-dollar contract Underachieving Millionaires (Gary no page). A big payday is a good thing for the person and his family, but might not always be good for the lo cker room and the Organization writing the checks. When you see a million dollar Running Back and a hundred thousand dollar lead blocker you can see where the problems start. They players will start playing worse if they are unsatisfied with their current contract and the guy who plays with makes way more than you they start thinking about how much their worth. Professional Athletes are making too much money in a society thats salaries and wages are traditionally based on the values of ones work(Jon Athletes are constantly getting in trouble with the law.The players have all this money they are going to go out and spend it and have fun with it.You can turn to the Sports page and read about Rae Carrot a Wide Receiver for the Carolina Panthers in the NFL going to court for murdering his wife, Michael Irvin or Darryl Strawberry once again getting busted for possession of Cocaine and Marijuana or the crazed out lunatic Dennis Rodman kicking a cameraman in th e groin.Whethar its Drug violation or Sexual Assault, it seems that the money is making these players behave badly . If we pay these players millions of dollars to entertain us, then it would be great if the could stay out of jail long enough so that the us the fans can see them play, but most of them end up getting out of prison and found not guilty of the crime because of who they are how much they are worth and how powerful they are. Professional athletes are getting paid millions for just games that are supposed to be fun I mean come on we all play and played them when we were kids and we enjoyed it for the fun of the game and the fun of the sport and the fun we had with the people we played them with. .u07ab1cd29f4b1e70eb8174390caca94c , .u07ab1cd29f4b1e70eb8174390caca94c .postImageUrl , .u07ab1cd29f4b1e70eb8174390caca94c .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u07ab1cd29f4b1e70eb8174390caca94c , .u07ab1cd29f4b1e70eb8174390caca94c:hover , .u07ab1cd29f4b1e70eb8174390caca94c:visited , .u07ab1cd29f4b1e70eb8174390caca94c:active { border:0!important; } .u07ab1cd29f4b1e70eb8174390caca94c .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u07ab1cd29f4b1e70eb8174390caca94c { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u07ab1cd29f4b1e70eb8174390caca94c:active , .u07ab1cd29f4b1e70eb8174390caca94c:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u07ab1cd29f4b1e70eb8174390caca94c .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u07ab1cd29f4b1e70eb8174390caca94c .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u07ab1cd29f4b1e70eb8174390caca94c .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u07ab1cd29f4b1e70eb8174390caca94c .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u07ab1cd29f4b1e70eb8174390caca94c:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u07ab1cd29f4b1e70eb8174390caca94c .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u07ab1cd29f4b1e70eb8174390caca94c .u07ab1cd29f4b1e70eb8174390caca94c-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u07ab1cd29f4b1e70eb8174390caca94c:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Evolution of Computers EssaySports and Games
